WHAT: a short editorial (0.40min - 1 min or so), done in CGI, with 3D scanned movement and models.
First of all, all contributors should receive, in case of economic profit, a fair percentage of it. Credits are never enough. It will be registered in the copyright office in Madrid, defining each person´s role in the creation of the video, where this percentage will be defined
Income possibilities:
- Models, clothes, scans, etc. Could be posted in online platforms that sell 3D elements to be used by 3rd parties. Each item would generate a passive income to everyone involved in its creation.
- maybe short film festivals, or could be used as a pilot film for future commercial projects
- Grants given by Epic to projects made with Unreal Engine, the software I will most likely use for this video. We could expand the project and get the grants, which are 500.000$ max. Project would need to be as safe and not aggresive as can be for this, since the company won´t sponsor suff that´s too edgy or problematic
Starting from an idea I found making my last project: "We sought an intersection between a scientific replica and a stylized, science fiction creature, reaching a point where reality meets fiction". A scene that could exist in present and a speculative immediate future at the same time. Good idea would be to present emerging-mid brands that carry a transgressive praxis into this forward-looking environment
Entirely CGI, models will be scanned and animated using motion capture, if possible.
- Alternatively, some brief videos could be also produced with cloth physics and the models standing still in the environment.
Narrative wise, a brief, direct action could work. Also want it to be open in terms of meaning, I don´t like forcing views or opinions if that´s cool. Structure could be like this (urban - white- urban):
STORY (STILL NEED TO WRITE SCRIPT)
https://www.notion.so/Short-2023-fb27ac026c5a44759e471222ae464d81?pvs=4
Had the idea of the model (s) entering the underpass and having to constantly dodge drones that serve as surveillance, delivering, etc. Model would eventually get hit in the head by one of them, and would break the drone in anger. Rest of the drones would then back and start to notice the model and avoid it.
Introduce setting: the underpass, ambient shots
Action: shots of cameras, insert shots, intro shot of model.
Then model walking and drones passing
Introduce problem: drones pass, record, model has to dodge them turning her head/ upper body
Mid action: switch to camera from POV drone, keeps recording him/ her
Solution:
- model punches drone, drone falls, change from POV
- After breaking drone, time slows, marking gravity of the action.
- Actor looks at camera, shot of camera, which lis looking ac actor. Cloud be various cameras from several angles
- Reaction from rest of drones: they look at model, forming a concentrical group of gazes, they stand still and back up slightly
Ending:
- Maybe open, camera just pans out from the broken drone?
- or model could just move forward and finish her journey
- Faints the drones, drones back up and empty the tunnel. Continues, exits the station sliding down the automated stairs
Notes: the seamless switch to drone POV was nice idea. Don’t make change obvious, camera just changes normally and is later revealed that it was from drone’s view
MODELS
I would use 2 models max to keep the production moderately fast, could be very time consuming
Hair should be short, like in the refs below max. Longer hair will make things unnecesarily difficult because it can glitch inside the body when the actor moves
I could buy a scanned person and adapt it to the face of the model we choose. I would use this store:
https://www.3dscanstore.com/retopologised-body-models/animation-ready-body-scans
I that, in this store, think women are better for the vid. They always use ripped guys
The most practical option would be the use of Metahuman, which is free and gives you the option of animating the model and use motion capture for the face:
- Video recording with iPhone-> ROkoko-> C4D cleanup-> Add mocap face using Rokoko or Unreal->Cloth simulation in Houdini -> insert in blocking made in C4D -> render in Unreal
- C4D blocking -> environment construction in Unreal using Quixel scans
- Camera animation in C4d -> import camera movement to Unreal
- Drone animation in C4D -> Unreal
CLOTHING
Hope this selection is not too basic,
Has to be relatively simple to be able to model it in 3D easily and simulate the clothes without much problem. Utilitary-futuristic: Survival, sci-fi, dystopian, adapted to extreme climates even, take Akira, Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, which are fashion of their moment taken to an extreme environment sort of.
We talked about having only Emeerree too. I mean I like him the most - he´s doing a new drop we could use- His next collection would come after summer and we wouldn´t be able to release this video until then. For me it would be a bit of a problem
If we are going to have two models, we could have one with the long coat and another with short stuff only
IDEA: Since I would need to have something to show before summer or so, we could do this to use Emeerree only:
- First set of videos with models in standing pose, inside the environment of the video. We could have wind to showcase cloth physics and some face expressions to show off the motion capture
- Second, the final video would serve for his new collection to be shown in September
- Guess we would need footwear with this option,
Emeerree and Greg Ross make sense to me bc a lot of their stuff (as far as I know) is made of vintage garments. Makes sense in this "history after the end of history" sort of environment
Footwear: if it´s possible, we could use Greg Ross´ boots and exclusively Emeerree clothing?
Eyewear: I like these Mowalolas, but again, depends if we are going to use just one brand.
There are good off brand replicas in Aliexpress that I could scan or just copy from their photos, probably won´t give problems with IP
Jewellery: No idea, old stuff would be cool maybe? Kind of relics.

REFERENCES FOR VIDEO
Good vid I found on instagram that serves well as base:
Could be done like in this Radiohead video, transitioning linearly
To have an idea of the quality we´ll have, these video were done all in CG, using 3D scans and motion capture (although I would like to try other alternatives that might work too). Obviously hey are big productions, at 100s of thousands of euros to produce + bakced by big studios. Ours will much much be smaller in scale, but will try to get the quality as close as I can:
This one done by a smaller crew. Again, ours will be even smaller:
MAIN ENVIRONMENT
Liminal space. A passing zone, undefined, could be anywhere, anytime. Vague enough, but very stylized. Should have an open zone, connecting with the exterior. A corridor - plaza hybrid, channel for human traffic and meeting. Probably during the day or sunrise, you should be able to see the exterior a bit
Environment light placement
Lighting ideas
Character ideas:
Light in environment details. In Children of Man (2006), they took a London library and put suspended LED lights to create the futuristic look, very direct and simple way of turning a historic space into science fiction.
Maybe the floor could react to the movements of the actor as he/ she passes through a zone, like an interactive advertising
